Microneedling & PRP

What is microneedling?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic treatment that rejuvenates your skin and provides lasting results. Also known as collagen induction therapy, microneedling uses a special device that contains tiny needles. When applied to your skin, the tool creates microtears in the surface layer of your skin, which triggers your skin’s natural healing properties and stimulates production of collagen, the protein that keeps your skin smooth, strong, and resilient.

The team at Colorado Skin Care use SkinPen® by Bellus Medical, the most up-to-date microneedling device.

The microneedling is used to improve the appearance of facial scars, fine lines and wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation.

What is PRP?

PRP is a form of regenerative medicine that contains a high concentration of the healing properties found in your blood, including platelets, growth factors, and specialized cells. When injected or applied to your skin, these healing cells support the regeneration of new, healthier, younger tissue.

To obtain the PRP used for each microneedling session, the team at Colorado Skin Care takes a sample of your own blood that's spun in a centrifuge to separate the healing cells from the other components. The advanced dermatology office is equipped with the most-up-to-date centrifuge, so you get the best possible results.

What happens during microneedling and PRP treatment?

All facial treatments at Colorado Skin Care are personally designed to match your specific skin needs and goals, so your treatment may not be like anyone else’s. But the team may include some of the same steps.

Before your treatment begins, your provider may first apply a numbing agent to your skin to alleviate discomfort during the microneedling. Then, a sample of blood is taken from your arm to create the PRP.

Your provider cleans your skin with an antibacterial agent and applies the PRP. Then, your provider uses the microneedling device to force the PRP into your skin and create the microtears.

After your session, your provider applies a serum to ease any redness, and you go home. You should be able to resume your usual activities the following day.

Though results vary, you should start to notice an improvement in your look soon after your treatment, with continued improvements over the next several weeks. Additional treatments may be recommended to support your aesthetic goals.
