Adult Acne? We Can Fix That.

Adult Acne? We Can Fix That.

Aug 05, 2025

Acne is never fun. But what has been estimated to affect as many as 90% of adolescents isn’t something that always disappears once you become an adult. Many of us know — or are — grown people who still deal with acne, whether as a result of PMS, hereditary conditions, or other reasons we simply can’t fathom.

If you’re tired of dealing with acne, especially in your adult life, let us help you manage the problem and get great results.

Colorado Skin Care provides multiple treatments for adult acne. Our provider, Kimberly Stone, MD, knows every patient is different, and what might work for someone else might not work for you. Ultimately, though, she — and the rest of our dedicated team — is here to help you every step of the way through your journey toward flawless skin.

Why adult acne happens

Teenagers are often told their acne is something temporary and that they’ll grow out of it. But when adults experience breakouts, it’s common for others to assume it’s because they don’t take good care of their skin. This isn’t the case and can make people feel worse about a condition that already causes them embarrassment.

It’s true, in some cases, that adult acne may occur as a result of specific behaviors. But while no link has been found between eating greasy foods and breakouts, you may be more likely to see acne appear if you:

  • Sleep with your makeup on
  • Use facewashes that have oils in them
  • Take certain medications

However, like most things in life, you can’t just make one change and see a drastic improvement in your acne. Adult acne occurs because of excess oil production. This could be related to other issues (inflammation, bacteria, menstrual or stress hormones, etc.), and it can be hard to pinpoint a single problem to change.

Instead, it’s important to take good care of your skin, avoiding overwashing, and using products that don’t add oil. And while some people see one or two pimples breaking out over time (which can be treated over-the-counter remedies), others can experience acne that affects their mental well-being. When this is the case, it can be time to reach out to a clinic like ours.

Managing adult acne

At Colorado Skin Care, we work hard to manage adult acne, giving you all the options that may potentially help your situation, as well as the care and understanding many people may not have provided. After all, we know that living with acne can be difficult, and we’re ready to help you treat it in the best way for your skin’s health.

Some of the options available for treating acne include over-the-counter medications that deal with occasional breakouts. But if you’re experiencing more severe acne, prescription medications, antibiotics, or isotretinoin might be a better choice. Of course, we take all of your individual needs into account to determine which is best for you.

Other options include laser therapy, chemical peels, and intense pulsed light therapy. At our clinic, we’re able to provide you with a personalized treatment plan that may use one or more procedures and/or medications to manage inflammation, reduce oil production, and deal with clogged pores.

Adult acne treatment is crucial

In many cases, treating adult acne not only improves skin health but mental and emotional health, as well. People who are able to see a reduction in their acne often feel much better about themselves and more prepared to tackle the world. We love helping our patients feel incredible in the skin they're in, and we’ll do our absolute best to provide you with this, too.
