How Long Will My Dysport® Results Last?

How Long Will My Dysport® Results Last?

Jun 01, 2025

We’ve all seen family members scolding younger women with a phrase like “Don’t frown; you’ll get wrinkles!” This kind of talk isn’t helpful, but forehead wrinkles are a cause for concern in many people who want a youthful appearance. Fortunately, there’s another easy treatment, similar to Botox®, that can take these wrinkles away. It’s called Dysport®

Colorado Skin Care offers a number of different aesthetic treatments for the signs of aging, including Dysport. Kimberly Stone, MD, recommends this option especially for forehead wrinkles. But how long do the results actually last, and will you need to get the treatment again the same way you would with Botox?

Botox vs Dysport: Which is right for you?

First and foremost, you may be asking about the difference between Botox and Dysport. You should know they both contain the same active ingredient — abotulinumtoxin A — which is what relaxes the muscles in the face that cause dynamic wrinkles. These are the wrinkles that form over time as the result of facial expressions you make.

The biggest difference between the two treatments is in how they spread. Botox is meant to stay in one spot, which is why it’s best for dealing with smaller-spaced wrinkles like crow’s feet. However, Dysport has smaller molecules, allowing it to spread through the area it’s treating. This makes it more suitable for larger spaces like forehead lines.

What to expect from your Dysport results

The process of getting Dysport treatments is very similar to that of a Botox treatment. You receive your procedure in-office, and it doesn’t take more than 30 minutes. Pain is minimal — if felt at all — and you’ll be able to return to your regular activities that same day with only a few precautions to ensure the procedure takes properly.

However, one of the most important distinctions between Dysport and Botox is that the results will usually be seen much sooner in the case of the former. While Botox takes a week to a month to show its full results, most people see smoother skin from Dysport in a few days. The results usually last as long as those from Botox, providing smoother, younger-looking skin for about three or four months.

Of course, this is the typical timeline for most patients. This doesn’t guarantee that your results will be exactly the same and is only a general expectation to help you determine what you’ll most likely experience with your Dysport results.

Follow-up treatments for Dysport — and what’s next

You may be asking if you’ll need follow-up treatments after your first Dysport procedure. The answer is yes. Like Botox, Dysport’s results are temporary. You’ll need to schedule regular appointments to keep the results fresh and to continue seeing younger-looking skin without the appearance of dynamic wrinkles.

We recommend having a discussion with your provider about the treatment, including asking questions about expected results and their duration before you decide what’s best for you. Although we admit that Dysport’s results don’t last forever, we do maintain that the treatment itself lasts a good, long while and that patients are consistently satisfied with the results.
